How a case is planned

It starts with what is wrong, in your words, not ours. “My teeth look short” and “my smile is crooked” lead to entirely different plans, and a surprising number of cases that arrive asking for veneers are better solved with orthodontics and whitening for a third of the money.

Then the records: a full set of photographs including video of you speaking, an intraoral scan, and a facebow record so the design relates to your face rather than to the model. Tooth proportion is judged against the width of your smile and the line of your lower lip, not against a template.

The design is shown to you on screen and changed until you are happy, then made as a trial smile in composite that you wear home. Only once you have approved that do we prepare anything. Most finished cases combine veneers, bonding and crowns rather than one material throughout.

Common questions

Yes, once the design is agreed. The consultation gives you a written plan with a single total, and it stays valid for six months. If the work turns out to need more than we allowed for, we absorb it.

At the consultation, yes, with before and after photographs of comparable cases. We will also show you a case that did not go to plan and what we did about it, because that is more informative than a gallery.

The porcelain elements carry a five-year guarantee and commonly last ten to fifteen. Composite elements need refreshing every five to seven. A night guard is included in every smile design case, and it is the main reason the numbers hold.
