Dentures

Made by Michael Ashworth, the technician in Leeds we have worked with since 2011. He attends the try-in appointment himself for complex cases — which is unusual, and is most of why our dentures fit.

  • from £1,400 Acrylic
  • from £2,100 Cobalt chrome
  • 4–5 Appointments
  • 6–8 weeks Timescale

Why the technician comes to the appointment

A denture is the one thing in dentistry where the person who makes it never normally meets the person who wears it. The dentist takes impressions and records a bite, writes a prescription, and a technician thirty miles away interprets it. Most of what goes wrong is lost in that handover.

For full dentures and complex partial cases, Michael comes to the try-in. He sees your face move, hears you speak, and adjusts the tooth position himself rather than reading a note about it. It adds an appointment and it is the reason we get remakes into single figures a year.

Cobalt chrome partial dentures are thinner, warmer and far more comfortable than acrylic, and they clasp onto existing teeth in a way that is designed rather than improvised. They cost more and they are almost always worth it if you have enough teeth left to hold one.

Common questions

Not if the tooth position and shade are right, which is what the try-in is for. You will see the teeth set in wax, in your mouth, and can change the shape, shade and position before anything is finished.

Two to six weeks for a first denture. Start with soft food cut small, and expect to relearn chewing rather than to adapt instantly. Sore spots in the first fortnight are normal and we adjust them at no charge.

Yes, and for a lower full denture it transforms the result. Two implants and a clip-in denture is a much cheaper route than a fixed full arch and solves the main complaint, which is a lower denture that will not stay put.
