Why not one implant per tooth
Because the bone rarely allows it and the cleaning is worse. Three adjacent implants sit close enough that the gum between them cannot be maintained, and peri-implantitis — the implant equivalent of gum disease — starts in exactly those spaces. Two implants with a pontic between them leaves room to clean.
It is also roughly £700 cheaper than three single units, and one less surgical site. The planning is where the difference lies: the two implants have to be positioned so the bridge between them is passive, which is a scan-and-software job rather than a judgement made on the day.
Where the span is longer than four teeth or the bone is thin at the back, we will usually propose either a longer bridge on three implants or a full arch, and give you both prices.
Common questions
Superfloss threaded under the bridge daily, plus interdental brushes around each implant. Your hygiene appointments become non-negotiable — they are what the guarantee is conditional on, and they are how peri-implantitis gets caught early.
The bridge comes off, the site is cleaned and allowed to heal, and a replacement is placed — covered by the ten-year guarantee where hygiene appointments have been kept. It adds months, not a second full fee.
Implants are not routinely available on the NHS except in a narrow set of medical circumstances. Ashcroft is entirely private, and 0% finance over twelve months is available on the full amount.
