The part that decides whether it lasted
Teeth drift for the rest of your life, treated or not. Straightening them does not stop that. Retention does, and only for as long as you keep it up — which is why retainers are in the price here and why the fee covers two years of reviews after the braces come off.
The regime: wear the removable retainer every night for the first year, then three or four nights a week indefinitely. The bonded wire behind the front teeth does most of the work invisibly and needs nothing from you except that you tell us if it ever feels loose.
A debonded retainer wire that nobody notices for six months is the single most common reason a good result goes backwards. It is a five-minute repair if it is caught and a repeat course of treatment if it is not. Come in; we do not charge to re-bond one within two years.
Common questions
Yes, in the sense that three nights a week for life is the price of the result holding. Most people find it about as onerous as a night guard, and it is considerably cheaper than a second course of orthodontics at forty.
Come in and we will scan you. If the movement is small a new retainer can often hold what you have. If it is more than that, a short course of aligners to recover the position and then a new retainer is usually cheaper than you expect.
Yes, and it is worth considering if your teeth are straight but starting to crowd. A bonded wire and a night retainer will hold them where they are. Assessment is £110.
